How is SCUDO going to achieve it’s goals?

The 3 Stages are supported by 5 Pillars aiming to achieve the 6 objectives of the project:

*Safe System Approach – “The approach is generally characterised as a proactive and preventive approach that starts from a human-centred perspective (…): first, humans are fallible, and this contributes to the cause of road crashes. Secondly, humans are vulnerable, which means that they will sustain physical harm when their body is exposed to large impact forces, such as in a crash. (…) In practice, this means that the Safe System approach expects road users to normally obey the rules, but that it is the ultimate responsibility of planners, designers, builders, maintainers, and managers to care for a road traffic system that supports road users in safe behaviour that prevents crashes by anticipating and accommodating human error. In the event of a crash, the system has sufficient redundant and forgiving elements to prevent crash forces from exceeding the tolerance levels of the human body, causing serious injury or death.” Source: European Commision

Project management and task organization

The project is organized into Work Packages (WP) which are components of the project work breakdown that represent a group of project activities targeting common specific objectives. Each WP is lead by a consortium member.

Leader: IUAV
WP1 sets the groundwork for SCUDO, engages the public, collects requirements for governance, develops the SIEF and KPIs of the project, and provides detailed specifications for the development of the Pan-European Platform for resilient and safe transport systems. WP1 also provides input to the developed technologies in WPs 2-4 and WP6 related to the Use Cases of SCUDO.

Taks compiled:

  • Status Quo map and Literature Review
  • Analysis of the impact of disruptive changes for different socio-economic groups at the EU level
  • Standardized Impact Evaluation Framework (SIEF) and Definition of KPIs
  • Public Engagement
  • Requirements and constraints in current governance
  • Detailed specifications of the Pan-European Platform and validation plan

Leader: NTUA
WPs 2-4 develop SCUDO’s solutions related to sensing, forecasting, and decision support methods for strategic design, tactical planning, and operational control of resilient transport systems.
WP2 provides input to WP3 in terms of an Open Data Platform and a Federated Data storage
system.

Taks compiled:
• Integration with existing data tools and sources
• Opportunistic data sources integration
• Open Data Platform and Data Interpolation
• Uncertainty quantification

Leader: TUM
WPs 2-4 develop SCUDO’s solutions related to sensing, forecasting, and decision support methods for strategic design, tactical planning, and operational control of resilient transport systems.
WP3 provides input to WP4 in terms of identified disruptions, critical network lines, disruption classification, and future-state forecasting.

Taks compiled:
• Overall Forecasting Framework
• System state forecasting
• Disruption classification, including black swans
• Disruption simulation and impact forecasting
• Response measure optimization and implementation
• Recovery time forecasting

Leader: TUD
WPs 2-4 develop SCUDO’s solutions related to sensing, forecasting, and decision support methods for strategic design, tactical planning, and operational control of resilient transport systems.
WP4 develops methodologies for managing disruptive events at the long, medium, and short-term.

Tasks compiled:
• Safe System Approach-based strategic design methods
• AI-based Tactical Planning Methods
• AI-based Operational Control Methods
• Requirements for methods’ implementation in governance tools

Leader: Frontier (co-leaders: IUAV, TUM, TUD, NTUA)
WPs 2-4 feed into WP5, which develops the Pan-European Platform for resilient and safe transport.

Tasks compiled
• Development of a blueprint for the platform
• Integration of Data and Algorithmic Tools
• Platform Development (Backbone)
• Platform Development (Dashboard)
• Investigating the interlinking layer with European Mobility Dataspace (EMDS)

Leader: ERTICO
WP6 is dedicated to the setup of the 4 Use Cases, their rollout, and their impact assessment. The setup and the impact assessment in WP6 are performed using input from WP1, along with the implementation of components of WP2-4 which are fed to the Pan-European Platform developed in WP5.

Taks compiled:
• Design and Setup the Use Cases
• Use Case Rollout and Testing
• Impact Assessment and Validation

Leader: INOVA+
WP7 is dedicated to supporting communication, dissemination, exploitation, and providing governance and policy recommendations, utilizing the lessons learned from the project. WP7 also includes training activities and it constantly exchanges information with all WPs of the project.

Tasks compiled:
• Dissemination, Communication
• Knowledge Transfer and Sustainability
• Business Models, Exploitation and Development of Standards
• Governance and policy recommendations to authorities and service providers

Leader: ERTICO
The same applies for WP8 which focuses on the project’s management.

Tasks compiled:
• Project Coordination
• Administrative and Financial Management
• Technical and Innovation Management
• Quality Assurance and Risk Management
• Data Management, Open Science, Standardisation and Ethics
