Eusebiu Catana introduces SCUDO at Data Spaces Symposium 2026
11th February 2026 – Eusebiu Catana (ERTICO-ITS EUROPE), the project coordinator for SCUDO, took the stage at the Data Spaces Symposium 2026 in Madrid to present on the topic: “Towards a European Mobility Data Space: Interoperability, Governance, and Compliance.” During his presentation, Catana showcased SCUDO as a pioneering initiative in the field of advanced mobility.

The session addressed a key challenge: the fragmentation of mobility data and regulation, which results in a complex and inefficient mobility ecosystem. It then introduced a solution: a data-sharing framework designed to replace repetitive reporting, enabling continuous and automated compliance rather than relying on manual, redundant processes.
SCUDO is at the forefront of this innovative approach, alongside other groundbreaking projects, including O-CEI, deployEMDS, NAPCORE, NAPCORE X, 3DxVERSE, and BoostEDIC Transport & Logistics, all of which were also presented during the session. These projects work on how to establish a federated, interoperable, and trusted environment for data exchange among mobility operators, public authorities, service providers and other key stakeholders. Data is shared in a sovereign, governed, and auditable manner through certified connectors and standardized semantic models such as DATEX II (Data Exchange for Traffic and Travel Information, CEN/TC 278), NeTEx (Network Timetable Exchange, CEN/TS 16614), and SIRI (Service Interface for Real-Time Information, CEN/TS 15531).
The SCUDO project integrates advanced digital solutions and data to enable a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of various disruptions across different geographical areas and user groups. The proposed architecture is fully aligned with the principles of European Data Spaces, IDSA, and GAIA-X, providing a robust foundation where regulatory compliance, analytics, and operational decision-making are based on reliable, machine-readable data.
Eusebiu Catana then highlighted the benefits of this approach, such as mobility solutions actively contribute to the success of a data space by enabling secure and governed data sharing among multiple stakeholders, while ensuring interoperability, traceability, and controlled access. The framework also supports automated compliance, predictive analytics, and improved operational efficiency. All of these elements are fully aligned with the objectives of the EU Mobility Data Space, reinforcing its vision of a more connected, efficient, and sustainable mobility ecosystem. Ultimately, this approach reduces administrative burdens, strengthens regulatory oversight, and enables the safe and scalable deployment of innovative mobility services.

The event successfully showcased the practical application of SCUDO to enhance the resilience of Europe’s mobility, making it smarter, safer, and more sustainable.
