TUM and Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes meet in Frankfurt to advance SCUDO’s Bavaria Use Case

21 January 2026 – Representatives from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) met with Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes in Frankfurt to advance the work being carried out under SCUDO’s Bavaria Use Case.

The meeting brought together Hamza Begic from TUM and Björn Siebert and Johannes Hagedorn from Die Autobahn GmbH des Bundes, the federal company responsible for planning, building, operating, and financing Germany’s motorway network. The discussions covered the progress made within the SCUDO project to date, the specific scope and objectives of the Bavarian use case, and key aspects of the data acquisition and availability process. The parties also aligned on next steps and planned activities for the upcoming phases of the project.

The Bavaria Use Case focuses on resilient highway traffic management under disruptive conditions, including extreme weather events, accidents, and supply chain disruptions. A key concern is the growing impact of climate change on the Autobahn, where flooding is increasingly inflicting damage on road surfaces and unpredictable weather events such as storms, hail, and torrential rains are complicating traffic management and jeopardising road safety.

The Frankfurt meeting was an important step in strengthening the collaboration between the academic and operational partners involved in Use Case and helping to align expectations and build a solid foundation for the work ahead. It reflects SCUDO’s commitment to close engagement with national transport authorities and infrastructure operators throughout the project’s implementation.
