SCUDO consortium partners gathered in Venice for project meeting
18th June 2026 – The SCUDO team gathered at IUAV University of Venice (IUAV) for an in-person two day consortium meeting, between 16th and 17th June, with the online participation of the Project Officer, Andrea Superti.
As often happens when teams that usually work remotely come together, the meeting created a valuable opportunity to step away from daily distractions and focus fully on the project’s progress, challenges, and next steps.
The in-person setting proved especially valuable in helping partners better understand what each team is working on and how the different contributions connect. It also opened the floor for important questions and discussions across the consortium.
Day 1
The day began with a welcome address by the project coordinator, Eusebiu Catana from ERTICO – ITS EUROPE (ERTICO), followed by an introductory intervention from the Project Officer.
The session opened with a brief recap by IUAV of the activities related to setting the ground of the project by defining requirements and establishing KPIs.
National Technical University of Athens for Athens (NTUA), IUAV, Technical University of Munich (TUM), and Delft University of Technology (TU DELFT) then introduced the latest progress on sensing and monitoring solutions. The agenda covered completed work on existing data tools and sources, as well as advances in the collection and analysis of opportunistic data. Partners also discussed progress on the unified algorithm, operator data collection and uncertainty quantification. The advancement towards the building of a Open Data Platform was presented, being highlighted the achievement of a mockup version.
The third topic focused on forecasting solutions, with contributions from TUM, TU Delft, IUAV and NTUA. The presentations began with an overview of the forecasting framework within SCUDO, followed by updates on the research and testing of system state forecasting tools. The consortium was also introduced to the outcomes of the literature review on disruption classification. Further discussions addressed progress on disruption simulation and impact forecasting, response measure optimisation and implementation, and recovery time forecasting.
The afternoon session opened with presentations from TU Delft, TUM and IUAV, focusing on robust and resilient interventions to disruptions. Discussions began with an update on the exploration of Safe System Approach-based strategic design methods, including the next steps planned in this area. This was followed by presentations on AI-based tactical planning methods and AI-based operational control methods. The session also addressed identified constraints across regulatory, service, high-tech, data, network and computation dimensions.
The second afternoon presentation was led by Frontier and focused on the SCUDO Pan-European Platform for Resilient and Safe Transport. The presentation outlined the path towards the development of the final platform, shared progress achieved so far, including a mock-up version, and provided an overview of the next steps.
The following topic focused on the Use Case Roll-out, presented by ERTICO. The session included an overview of the use cases, the tasks planned for the remaining implementation period, events already attended, and possible future events where the project may be represented.
The presentations concluded with an overview by INOVA+ of the work carried out to communicate the project and the next steps ahead, followed by discussions also leaded by INOVA+ on upcoming activities related to training and business model development.
The day concluded with a generous visit tour to ACTV promoted by the City of Venice, followed by a consortium dinner.
Day 2
Day 2 shifted the focus towards deeper technical engagement and strengthening connections across the consortium.
The morning sessions were led by the four use cases, each diving into the technical specifics of their respective contexts. IUAV for Venice, NTUA for Athens, TUM for Bavaria, and TU Delft for the Netherlands each contributed insights spanning optimization methods, AI-based reactive control, and the integration of algorithmic tools into governance and operational frameworks across their cities and regions.
The afternoon featured one of the most interactive sessions, led by Frontier Innovations, generating rich input from across the consortium on the integration of data and algorithmic tools into the Pan-European Platform.
The meeting was then brought to a close by ERTICO , wrapping up two productive days in Venice.
